about

This is the album from the most successful thing I had going in Chicago. I wanted to create dance music that was low on chord changes and singing and survived off grooves and shouted half assed poetry. Got a bad review from the chicago reader that actually seemed fair to me . it credited the "jumbo grooves " and production detail but said it was short on melody or hooks (melody maybe ...hooks i think we had). The cherry on the pie was
"Dixon, who adds giddy organ swells, sings in an irritating style somewhere between the larger-than-life huff of Tom Waits and the dopey white-boy rhyming of M. Doughty"....fair enough . I loved and still do love Soul Coughing and Tom Waits ( shouty weird not jazzy snooze)
